Year 2
Welcome to Year 2!
The whole Year 2 team is excited for the journey of learning and growing we are all going to embark on this year!
A key focus this year will be developing reading beyond phonics. We will help the children become confident readers who can not only decode words but also understand, discuss and explain what they have read, through a range of comprehension activities.
In English, we will encourage children to become independent writers, trusting their own ideas and using their phonic knowledge to help them spell and write with increasing confidence. In Maths, we will build a strong sense of number through place value, addition and subtraction, helping children develop fluency and confidence in their mathematical thinking.
Year 2 is also the final year of Key Stage 1, and the children will have the opportunity to demonstrate all they have learned through their KS1 assessments. Alongside this, one of the highlights of the year will be our Nativity performance, where the children can shine through singing, acting and teamwork.
We look forward to a year of hard work, happy learning and wonderful achievements as we continue to help every child grow in confidence, independence and faith.
